I’m Going to Need a Bigger Jar.

This is my set list from the night I opened for Todd Glass.

If you have ever been to an open mic comedy show, then you have obviously seen a comedian’s set list. Minutes before going on stage, you will see a comic write down 5-7 words, each one representing a joke.

But what happens to set lists afterwards?  Some people feel that after a comic performs the set, that the sheet of paper just disintegrates. Others believe the set list passes on to the other side, joining other quickly rushed lists written by Pryor or Carlin, in “Set List Heaven”.  Read the rest of this entry »

Stand-up Club: The Show

I took this photo with that Hipstamatic app. Do you love it?

The very first “Stand-up Club: The Show” took place on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at The Crown and Tiger Bar in Toronto. The first show was jam-packed with exceptionally funny comedians. Along with all three members of Stand-up Club, we had Georgea-Brooks Hancock and Fraser Young join us. They are both so hilarious, I was so excited about this line up.

This show is an outlet for a tight-knit group of comedians, who are striving to produce a lot more material, and do a lot more sets. The goal should be to do a new 10 minutes set from the last time you were on the show. Eventually, by always trying to produce a lot more material, the ability to headline is there.

Basically we created a show for ourselves, that will allow us to learn how to host, open, middle and headline a showcase show. Instead of waiting around for someone else to give us that opportunity, we just make it happen. Read the rest of this entry »

Best Weekend Ever- The Todd Glass Experience

Wow, I had the best weekend last week you guys! I’ll try my best not to ramble on and on too much while going through it. For anyone who reads my blog regularly, or knows me, you know that last weekend was a big one for me. Me and one of my best friends Pat Thornton had the opportunity to open for the hilarious Todd Glass!

I had been looking forward to this weekend so badly, for so long. In preparation for this show, Pat and I were doing 9-12 sets a week leading up to it. All of these extra sets worked wonders as far as fine tuning new jokes, and overall tightening up our sets. Basically, doing all these extra sets would be like the equivalent to a fighter ramping up his or her training camp before a big fight.  Not every “work out” we did was a glamorous one, most of them can be referred to as just another day in a stinky gym. Stand-up Club

I want to take a quick moment to tell you guys what’s been going on with me lately. I’d like to apologize to everyone who has been mailing me, and hasn’t received a response. I’m trying to personally respond to all of my fan mail, but due to just pure volume, it’s been an overwhelming task. My life is a complete sham. Why do I have to lie to these nice people. Please keep all the wonderful questions and comments coming, and a special thanks to whoever sent that amazing banana bread.

OK, back to biznezz. I haven’t been blogging as much as I would have liked lately, but it’s because I was very busy. The last 4-6 weeks have been the best time i’ve had in a long while. I have completely immersed myself back into the beautiful world of stand-up comedy. A little while back, I was talking to my good friends Pat Thornton (HotBox, Owl and The Man) and Bob Banks (Mantown, PB&J,an Improv phenom)and we were just talking about stand-up comedy. Pat and I have both done stand-up for a little while, but for whatever reason (there are many) we never fully committed ourselves to it. Over a slice of pizza at Vinny Massimo’s, we made an informal agreement to really be on top of each other to do a lot more stand up. Read the rest of this entry »

Only One Thing On My Mind

The only other thing on my mind is "My Photoshop skillz are siiiick!)

A couple of weeks ago, I got a very exciting email. This email wasn’t exciting because it promised me a larger penis, or informed me that if I just send my bank info that the king of a far away country will give me half a million dollars. Although I must admit that both of those emails are pretty awesome, this was different.

In this great little email, I was told that I would be opening for one of my standup comedy idols, the fantastic Todd Glass! Even better, I get to perform with one of my best friend’s, Pat Thornton (Hotbox, Owl and the Man). I discovered Todd Glass about 3 years ago on a podcast called “Comedy, and Everything Else“. I instantly was swept off my feet by his sense of humour, outlook on life, contagious warm laugh and oodles of charm. I dare you to listen to some of the early episodes, and not fall in love with Todd. Read the rest of this entry »
